No matter what your water filtration need is, if you have a filtration system, you might face the following dilemma: which filters should be used for your system, string wound filters or Purtrex water filters. In a nutshell, String Wound Water Filters are made of individual fibers, which are made up of various materials, and wound together. Purtrex uses continuous fibers of a single material, which are thermally bonded together to form the special and effective structure of the filter.

Because of the different structure of Purtrex water filters, they are superior to string wound filters on many levels. Purtrex uses identical fibers, bonded together to form a very strong structure so their lifespan is longer than string wound filters, and the pressure under which they can effectively filter is the same for all fibers. String wound filters, for that very reason, might be unpredictable in performance, because the various individual fibers are not identical and different levels of pressure could cause particles to be released into the filtrate.

Because Purtrex filters are made only of polypropylene, compatibility with many types of substances is ensured. String wound filters would contain multiple materials; core material, string, antistatic agent, resins or binders; thereby making it harder to foresee which chemicals could be incompatible with the filter. Which material your filters are made of does not only affect the compatibility. Additionally, using a single material in the filters makes it FDA approved for food/beverage applications.

Purtrex filters are available to fit a wide range of standard sized water filter housings. Also, a vast variety of 100% polypropylene end-adapters are available; for example gaskets, extended cores and self-seal polypropylene springs.

The automated and consistent manufacturing process used to make Purtrex filters ensures repeatable results and capacities for each new filter that is produced. The factory has vacuum and thermal finishing procedures in place that get rid of every last bit of debris that might otherwise be stuck inside the filter and reduce its effectiveness or dirt holding capacity.

Replacing your string wound filters could be a hassle. If you have ever spent time trying to remember which filter goes where, or had to count the strings of a filter to identify it, you would appreciate the clear labeling on Purtrex filters.
