The Pentair CW/WP series sediment filters make use of the string wound design that has the ability and solid capacity to reduce fine particles of sediment from many different fluids, more than other leading brands of filters. The 155071-43 WP-5 water filter is manufactured from a cord of polypropylene that is wounded on the sides of a rigid core. The highly efficient filter cartridge uses 100 percent pure polypropylene fibers for superior performance in filtration. They are the ultimate economic solution to reduce a number of fine sediments including silt, rust, sand, and scale from the filtered water.

The strings in WP series filters are wounded in a precise pattern around the core on the cartridges, which provides more surface area than the other filters. The result of this greater area is that it has much higher dirt loading capabilities and greater competence than the standard wound water filter cartridges such as the CW series.

The nominal rate of micron of the WP5 polypropylene wound water filer cartridges is 5. These filter cartridges are well suited for different filtration needs, which includes commercial, residential, as well as industrial applications. They have the capacity to withstand hot temperatures up to 73.9 °C and accommodate flow rate up to 10 gpm, with a low pressure drop, improved sediment removal and lesser frequent maintenance compared to other comparable filters.
