The GE Purtrex filter consists of blown micro fibers which are thermally bonded together to form a durable sediment filter which would last longer than other types of water filters, namely string wound water filters that are made of individual fibers and with the help of resins or binders are bonded together. Purtrex depth filters are constructed from only one single material, to help make compatibility problems an issue of the past. Just 100% polypropylene. No binders or resins.

Polypropylene sediment filters from GE Osmonics are fully compliant with the FDA title 21 of Regulation Code 174.5 and 177.1520. You can use these sediment filters in a wide range of purifying applications, including fine chemicals, metal finishing, food and beverage, electronics, RO reverse osmosis water filtration, etc.

Any water filter's lifetime can be expressed as the time-length that the filter would function properly. If the pressure differential reaches 40 psid (2.8 bar), the water filter reaches the end of its life. More excessive pressure drops would cause the unit to become inefficient and not function properly. For Purtrex filters, its lifespan is exactly up to the point that (in a 10 inch filter) the pressure reaches 40 psid (2.8 bar). Other water filters like string wound sediment removal filters may be more inconsistent in their performance thus lifespan of such units may end at varying pressures.

Since the advanced structure of the filter itself is patented, the unit is more porous on the outside with it's fibers getting closer and denser together towards the inside core of the filter. Thus one can filter out bigger particles first, and smaller particles last. There is no possibility of the water filter getting clogged from the outside, while its inside has not yet been used to its full dirt holding capacity. The lifespan of the purtrex filter is much longer than it otherwise would have been.

Because Purtrex depth filters are made of one material, you can very easily dispose of them once they are used beyond their capacity. Also, whenever you need to change the old sediment filter catridge, you might not wish to count any strings, and remember which micron model of sediment filter you have installed in each part of your water filtration system. Instead, you probably want a filter such as Purtrex Water Filters that has clearly labeled indicators which model it is, and all that is needed is find the corresponding cartridge and replace it.
